Lip augmentation – find out the best methods!
Shaped and highlighted lips significantly affect the aesthetics of the face. Lip modeling and augmentation is one of the most popular and frequently performed aesthetic medicine procedures. What are the methods of lip augmentation? Which one to choose and what results can be expected?
Lip augmentation or shaping?
Both lip augmentation and lip shaping procedures affect the appearance, shape and even size of the lips. However, the two procedures differ in terms of details.
- Lip augmentation is recommended for those people who are not satisfied with the natural size of their lips. It can be carried out using various techniques (more or less invasive).
- Lip shaping may involve lip augmentation at the same time, but not necessarily. Just correcting the shape of the lips is perfect as a method of lifting the corners or compensating for asymmetry.
Although these terms are sometimes used interchangeably, they imply a slightly different scope of treatment. Before deciding on any of them, consult an aesthetic physician.
What are the methods of lip augmentation?
There are several different ways to achieve the effect of enlarged, shapely and fuller lips. Some methods provide permanent results, but require the use of a scalpel. Others have a low level of invasiveness, but their effects only last for a limited time.
Lip augmentation methods – minimally invasive procedures
- Lip augmentation with hyaluronic acid – this is one of the most popular techniques to improve the shape of the lips, as well as to enlarge them. The procedure involves injecting hyaluronic acid into the selected area of the red lip. There are several different techniques for lip augmentation with hyaluronic acid. Among the most popular are: Russian Lips (this is flat lip shaping, which allows for enlargement of the red lip without increasing the protrusion of the lips) and Baby Doll Lips (this is a procedure that accentuates the middle part of the lips).
- Lip augmentation using the patient’s own adipose tissue – the procedure is similar to hyaluronic acid treatment. It uses an injection with a product that comes from the patient’s own fatty tissues. The procedure with fat allows to increase the volume of the lips, but it is not possible to correct the shape and modeling as precisely as when hyaluronic acid is used.
Which low-invasive method to choose? It’s hard to pinpoint the best one. Hyaluronic acid treatment allows for lip reshaping as well as lip augmentation, so it works well for people who need more than just lip augmentation. However, the effects of this procedure are not permanent – injections need to be repeated to maintain the results. Lip augmentation with the patient’s own fat, on the other hand, does not allow to change the shape of the lips, but instead guarantees a fairly natural filling effect, which will largely last permanently! It is estimated that up to half of the injected fat will be assimilated permanently.
Surgical methods of lip augmentation
They are more invasive than the use of fillers, but the results are permanent. One surgical method that is quite popular is the so-called Bull Horn Lip Lift technique. This procedure involves reducing the distance between the nose and upper lip, and slightly enlarging and highlighting it. Another surgical lip augmentation technique, which is no longer performed very often, however, is the placement of silicone implants.
Surgical methods of lip augmentation and shaping, although they produce permanent results, are more invasive than procedures involving injections. After any surgical intervention, scars remain – admittedly small, but you have to reckon with their presence. If, on the other hand, you are wondering whether lip augmentation hurts, don’t worry – each type of procedure is carried out with the appropriate method of anesthesia.
How much does lip augmentation cost and is it worth it?
The exact price for lip augmentation depends on the method you choose, as well as a couple of other factors. It already matters a lot which clinic you decide on, but also the expected results. What kind of expense to prepare for?
- Lip augmentation with hyaluronic acid injection costs from several hundred to over a thousand zlotys. The larger the amount of the product needed, the higher the price of this procedure can be.
- The price for lip augmentation with fat is higher than for hyaluronic acid injection, but the results are partly permanent. If you are interested in this method, be prepared to spend between two and five thousand zlotys. The exact price depends on the amount of product you will need to take and inject, but also on what type of anesthesia you opt for.
- Surgical lip augmentation is among the most expensive options, but it is by design a one-time procedure. Bullhorn lip lift costs about five or six thousand zlotys.
Are you unsure whether it’s worth it to opt for lip augmentation? That’s a question you’ll have to answer on your own or based on a consultation with an aesthetic physician.
What are the recommendations after lip augmentation?
The exact recommendations after a lip augmentation procedure depend on the method chosen and you will receive them from the doctor performing the procedure. However, there are some general recommendations that you can familiarize yourself with right now. What to do and what not to do after a lip augmentation procedure?
- Avoid touching your lips.
- Drink plenty of water.
- Limit physical exertion.
- Rest.
- Limit lip makeup.
- Follow the doctor’s recommendations. If necessary, attend a follow-up appointment at the indicated time.
