You will recognize dry skin by the fact that it is tight, dull and thin. It usually has an uneven surface, is sometimes cracked and may peel. Importantly, most often dryness appears not only on the face, but also on other parts of the body. The lips, hands, feet and elbows are most prone to this type of change.

Other characteristic features of dry skin include:

  • Vulnerability – dry skin is delicate; it is easy to get irritation, redness and even bleeding.
  • Lack of radiance – dry skin is dull and usually has an earthy, light yellow or light pink color.
  • Faintly visible pores – compared to other skin types on dry skin, pores are almost invisible.

What causes dry skin?

The level of skin hydration can decrease for various reasons – both external and internal factors affect it. Skin of this type is often the result of a malfunctioning hydrolipid barrier or disorders in sebum production. In addition, the level of collagen production in the body decreases in mature age – because of this, the skin also loses elasticity and becomes prone to dryness.

Factors that can exacerbate dry skin complaints:

  • Taking certain medications – can affect the sebaceous glands and promote dryness of the skin. Such an effect is demonstrated by selected preparations used to treat depression, antihistamines and diuretics.
  • Inadequate diet – drinking little water and eating a menu poor in sources of minerals, vitamins and fatty acids are not conducive to good skin condition.
  • Improper skin care – lack of moisturizing the skin, using irritating and ill-fitting cosmetics (for example, those containing alcohol) often makes the skin dry.
  • Hormonal disorders – for this reason, dry skin often occurs in menopausal women.
  • Atmospheric factors – strong wind, frost or rapid changes in temperature contribute to irritation of the epidermis and to drying of the skin.
  • Some skin diseases – psoriasis, eczema and similar conditions promote dry skin on the face and other areas of the body.

Proper care for dry skin

Dry skin requires systematic and carefully selected care. If you have this type of skin, do not underestimate its cleansing, but carry it out with gentle and regenerating cosmetics. Once a week, exfoliate the epidermis with a scrub; preferably enzymatic or acidic. Also, moisturize your skin daily with a light serum and a nourishing cream.

The right cream for dry skin

  • Vitamin E, which improves the elasticity of the epidermis,
  • Hyaluronic acid, which keeps the skin moisturized
  • Soothing thermal water.

Treatments for dry skin

You can take care of dry skin with specialized treatments as well. If you have this type of skin, you can opt for many different therapies:

  • Needle mesotherapyis an extremely popular procedure, the effect of which depends on the substance to be applied. Most often, mesotherapy uses the injection of preparations based on hyaluronic acid. It has strong moisturizing properties and therefore mesotherapy is one of the best methods for long-term hydration of dry skin.
  • Chemical peeling – it is not true that dry and sensitive skin should not be exfoliated. However, the gentleness of the treatment is key. A chemical peel, which you can get at a specialized beauty salon, will be tailored to your skin’s needs.
